This class is a Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) Surface New Miner training class. New Miner Part 48-B & Part 46 classes are both 24 hours. Our instructors are MSHA Approved and as such can teach both Part 46 & 48. This class covers all MSHA required topics under Part 46 & 48-B (except Coal) and that is why we can combine the training. At checkout there will be boxs for you to designate Part 48 or Part 46 and if your company has an MSHA training plan. This will allow us to know what questions to ask you so that we can work with you individually to ensure you meet MSHA compliance (very important). If together, we see that what you need is not what we offer, we will be happy to undo your registration and it will NOT be considered a cancellation.
One thing to know and understand as a contractor is that New Miner training requires a topic called; Introduction to work environment. The course shall include a visit and tour of the mine, or portions of the mine which are representative of the entire mine. The method of mining or operation utilized shall be observed and explained. Many mines will not let you on their mine without having completed 24 hours of training with an accompaning 5000-23 showing completed New Miner training. We utilize pictures of actual mines and mining procedures during training as the tour (these are not animations of mines). When you go to work is when you will have access to the mine and when you should get a tour as well as the MSHA required Site Specific training also known as Hazard Training.
This is an Open Enrollment class so we will discuss some things in general terms. An example would be your written Hazard Communication Plan. We will discuss HazCom programs contents and purposes but you will need to go over your companies individual program.
If you are trained as a “New Miner” by us, you will receive all required training except for Site-specific and Task Training. MSHA requires these will be provided by your company or the mining company at which you will be working, and may be from a few minutes to several hours in length. Every time you work at a new mine site, even if you have 10 years experience, you will be required to receive Site-specific training and any new task training that may be applicable.
(Coal Industry) This class is not designated as coal. However, if you need coal training as well, please contact me at rex@safestepstraining.com .
