New Miner Part 48-B & Part 46 classes are both 24 hours. Our instructors are MSHA Approved and as such can teach both Part 46 & 48. This class covers all MSHA required topics under Part 46 & 48-B (except Coal) and that is why we can combine the training. At checkout there will be boxs for you to designate Part 48 or Part 46 and if your company has an MSHA training plan. If you are trained as a “New Miner” by us, you will receive all required training except for Site-specific and Task Training.  MSHA requires these will be provided by your company or the mining company at which you will be working, and may be from a few minutes to several hours in length. Every time you work at a new mine site, even if you have 10 years experience, you will be required to receive Site-specific training and any new task training that may be applicable.

(Coal Industry) This class is not designated as coal. However, if you need coal training as well, please contact me at rex@safestepstraining.com .

National Safety Council  First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.
Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.  This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

Each Student will get a Student Manual, Pocket First Aid Guide, DVD, and 2 Certification Certificates.

This is for Layresponders such as Miners, Personal Trainers, Loggers, Industry Workers. Pretty much anyone that needs certification but does not require the Healthcare Provider BLS Certification. It does not include Child or Infant.

Excavation Safety for Competent Person is sometimes refered to as Competent Person Trenching.

This class is unlike any others. It is structured around the REQUIREMENTS of OSHA but in a very easy, down to earth, understandable format with discussion, PowerPoints, video clips, as well as fun and explanitory exercises for the attendees. It will also have a test at the end but as long as attendee pays attention, it will not be a problem. With the discussion, exercises, lunch (30 Min - included) and test at the end we have found that the class will normally run approximately 6 1/2 to 8 hours (depending on the students)

Attendees will also receive a comprehensive course manual and upon passing, a certificate of completion containing all information and signatures required to document the completion of your excavation competent person training class.

The following topics are covered in this Excavation Competent Person training course:

  • Definitions of Key Terms Used in the OSHA Excavation Standards (federal OSHA, as well as state OSHA where applicable)
  • OSHA Requirements to be a Competent Person on an Excavation Site
  • General Hazards Associated with Trenching and Excavation Work
  • Requirements for Locating and Working Near Underground Utilities (including a review of your state's underground utility protection codes)
  • Dangers Associated with Water Accumulation
  • Requirements for Safety Access and Egress from Trenches and Excavations
  • Exposure to Hazards of Nearby Vehicular Traffic
  • Identifying and Addressing Potential Atmospheric Hazards Associated with Excavation Work
  • Soil Testing and Classification
  • Requirements for Protective Systems
    • Sloping and Benching
    • Shoring
